Had my comms line go dead 40 feet down in the East River and my backup plan was a joke
Last Tuesday we were doing an inspection on a pier at the Brooklyn side when my hardline comms cut out about 40 feet down and my tender got nothing but static on the surface. Turns out the connector got fouled and water pushed past the seal, and I had to fall back on line pulls for the rest of the shift. Lost about 45 minutes of bottom time sorting it out and my tender had to keep signaling me on the lifeline the old way. Now I'm wondering if I should switch to a wireless backup or just carry a spare connector in my kit. What's your go-to backup when comms die mid-dive?
