Had a close call with a silt out on the Fraser River last month

We were doing a bridge inspection near Mission, BC and I got turned around in zero vis after kicking up the bottom. My umbilical got snagged on rebar about 15 feet down and my comms went to static. I had to feel my way back hand over hand, counting my breaths to stay calm. Anyone else have a plan for when you lose all reference points like that?

Check your umbilical length next time, not just your breath count.

Man, that's why I always keep a backup line tied off topside.

Barbarah19's backup line is smart, but I'd add a second carabiner on a separate anchor point for a real fail-safe.
