My entire long box of X-Men comics got soaked in a basement flood back in 2012.
I was moving apartments and had them stored at my parents' place in Cleveland, and a pipe burst right over the closet. I spent two days carefully separating every single page with wax paper, which saved about 80% of them. Has anyone else had a major comic rescue mission, and what was your method?

Oh man, that "single brick of pulp" description is so sadly perfect. I read a blog post once by a collector who had a similar flood. They swore by laying pages flat with plain computer paper between them, but they also used a fan on low in the room for air flow. Said the wax paper could sometimes trap moisture if you weren't careful. Your two day rescue mission sounds exhausting, but saving 80% is a huge win.

Remember reading about that fan trick too. Good air flow really does seem to make the difference between saving pages and just moving dampness around. It's those little details from people who've been through it that help the most.

Two days with wax paper is some real dedication. My only flood story is a stack of 90s Spider-Man books that fused into a single brick of pulp. Tried the freezer trick, ended up with a weird modern art sculpture instead of comics.
