I finally found a trick for storing long boxes that actually works in a small apartment
Honestly, I was losing my mind trying to stack long boxes in my one-bedroom place in Chicago. They kept crushing each other and I couldn't grab issues without moving four boxes. I saw a guy on a forum mention using those metal wire shelving units from Home Depot for like $40 each. I grabbed two of them last month and set them up in my closet. Now each shelf holds two long boxes perfectly flat and I can actually see the labels on the ends. No more digging through a pile or worrying about bent corners. Has anyone else tried a rack system for their floppy collection or found a better setup for tight spaces?

What about the humidity in Chicago ruining your longboxes on those metal shelves though.

That's a legit worry for sure, but I've had mine in a basement for two years now and no issues. The boxes sit up off the concrete floor, so there's air flow underneath. Plus the shelves are just coated wire, not solid metal that traps moisture underneath. I run a cheap dehumidifier in the room in summer and keep a humidity gauge in there. It stays around 45-50%, which is fine for comics. The longboxes themselves are more of a vapor barrier than people give them credit for.
