Got yelled at during a local comic swap in St. Louis for touching someone's variant cover

I was at this comic swap event down at the old VFW hall in St. Louis three months ago. Walking around tables, checking out bins, when I picked up a random issue to flip through the pages. This guy behind the table just snaps at me saying "Don't touch the cover, that's a 1:100 ratio exclusive." I was so taken aback I nearly dropped the whole stack. Turns out he had a whole system where you had to ask permission before even looking at certain books. Now I always check the table rules before I browse and I keep my hands in my pockets until I know it's cool. Has anyone else run into a collector who was super protective over their stuff like that?

Don't touch the cover, that's a 1:100 ratio exclusive" oh man I would have just dropped the whole box and walked out on principal. I mean I get it, some of those variants are pricey but you gotta remember we're all just comic nerds at a VFW hall not curators at the Smithsonian. I've had my share of awkward moments too, like the time I licked my finger to flip a page at a convention and the dealer looked at me like I just coughed on his baby. But honestly if you're that protective over your books maybe don't bring the crown jewels to a swap meet where people are elbow deep in dollar bins.

My buddy Dave got kicked out of a shop in Tulsa for breathing on a graded book.
