The latte art that turned into a mess at Grounds & Goodies

I was at Grounds & Goodies on Main Street last Saturday, trying to pour a little rosetta for the first time. The milk was too foamy and it just blobbed out into this weird lumpy shape that looked nothing like a leaf. The barista, Jen, came over and laughed, then showed me how to tap the pitcher to fix the bubbles, but I still ended up with a cup that looked like a sad potato. Has anyone else had a pour go completely sideways and just drank it anyway?

Oh man, my friend Sarah tried to pour a heart once and it came out looking like a squished kidney bean. She drank it anyway and said it tasted fine, just ugly.

Tbh that squished kidney bean description is hilarious but now I'm wondering if pouring latte art is actually harder than people think because of the physics of milk foam. Like nobody ever talks about how the milk temperature and the angle of the cup changes everything. Sarah might've been pouring at the wrong angle or her milk was too hot, which makes the foam separate weird. I've seen baristas mess up hearts because the milk wasn't steamed right to begin with, not because of their technique. So maybe it wasn't her fault at all and she just needed better foam.
