The guy at the corner table in Portland has been writing the same letter for three days

I'm at a place called Heart Coffee on Burnside, and I've seen this same man at the same corner table every morning this week. He's got a stack of nice paper and a fountain pen, and he's been writing what looks like a very long letter, but he only does a page or two each visit. He folds each finished sheet into a neat square and puts it in a small wooden box. Today, he finally sealed the box with a bit of wax from a candle he brought. It's just a quiet little story happening in real time, you know? Has anyone else ever watched a slow-motion moment like that play out in a cafe?

Ever notice how many private stories cafes hold?

My friend once saw a woman knit a whole scarf over a month at our library.

Totally, libraries are full of those quiet little projects. I saw a guy slowly building a massive model ship at a table by the windows for like two whole summers. It's kind of nice to see people making stuff in public like that.
