TIL a cheap kitchen scale fixed my morning pour over more than any new gear
For about a year I was eyeballing my coffee scoops and my cups were all over the place, sometimes weak and sometimes so strong it felt like a punch. I kept blaming my grinder and almost dropped $180 on a new one. Then my buddy Dave in Sacramento said to just weigh the beans and water instead of counting scoops. I grabbed the $12 kitchen scale from my cabinet that I use for baking and started weighing 18 grams of beans and 300 grams of water every morning. First week I was shocked at how much my old "two heaping scoops" was off, sometimes by 5 or 6 grams. The coffee got way more even day to day and I stopped wasting beans on bad cups. Now the scale lives right next to my kettle and I use it for tea too. Does anyone else weigh their grounds, or am I late to this party?
