I stopped deburring every part by hand and my cycle time dropped 22 minutes
I ran the same aluminum bracket job for two years with a hand file and a deburring wheel at the bench. Every part got walked over to the bench, hit on three edges, blown off, then stacked. Two years of that. Then my lead watched me do it and asked why I was deburring the back side at all when the tumbler could knock it down while I ran the next cycle. I felt dumb. I moved the deburr to a quick chamfer tool in the spindle on the last pass and tossed the rest in the tumbler during my lunch break. My cycle time went from 41 minutes to 19 on a 30 part run, and my hands stopped aching at the end of the shift. The parts come out cleaner too, no more file marks on the faces. The weird part is I fought the change for a year because that bench routine felt like real work. Has anyone else had a lead point out that half your routine was just habit and not actual value?
