Picked the cargo bike over a second car, my legs hate me now
After 6 months of borrowing my neighbor's truck for every grocery run in Portland I finally bought a used electric cargo bike for $1,200 thinking it would be simple, and now I'm hauling 40 pounds of recycling to the depot every Friday. The motor died on a hill with two kids and a week of groceries behind me, so I had to push the whole thing 3 blocks while some dude yelled 'nice workout' from his Prius. Has anyone else made this swap and actually stuck with it, or am I just torturing myself for the planet?

The motor dying on a hill is the absolute worst, Ive been there. I switched to a regular bike with a trailer after my e-bike battery gave up mid-ride for the third time. Took me a month to get used to the extra weight but now I just plan my routes so I never have to climb anything steep with a full load. The recycling depot run is the one that almost broke me too, so I started going twice a week with smaller loads instead of one giant trip. Way less drama on the hills and honestly way easier on my knees. Portland has those little food cart pod parking spots too, theyre good for quick rests if you need em. It gets easier around the 3 month mark when your legs just accept the new normal.
