Just found out something wild about old refrigerators
I was reading this article from my local energy company's website last night. It said a fridge from the 1980s can use over 1,000 kilowatt-hours a year, but a new efficient one uses less than 400. My mind is kind of blown that the old one in my garage could be costing me so much and using that much power. Has anyone else swapped out an old appliance and seen a real drop in their bill?

Oh man, that hits home. My garage fridge is probably older than I am, a real beige monster from like 1992. I call it the "power vampire" because it hums so loud you can hear it from the driveway. I keep telling myself I'll replace it, but then I just stuff more soda in there and feel guilty every time the electric bill comes. It's basically an appliance-shaped space heater that occasionally chills my drinks.

Feel that fridge guilt deep in my bones.

Ugh, I felt that in my soul. My basement has a similar ancient fridge that groans like it's in pain. The guilt when you open it and feel that blast of warm air mixed with cold is so real. It's like keeping a fossil alive just for cheap beer storage.
