Switched from gutter guards to monthly cleaning after a $1,200 roof repair
I used to think those $50 snap-in gutter guards from Home Depot were the answer, but after a clog ripped my gutters off the fascia during a storm last June, I learned the hard way. Now I just pay a kid from the neighborhood $40 to clean them out by hand every 4 weeks. Has anyone else ditched the guards and gone back to old-school maintenance?

Hell yeah @the_elizabeth, I tried those snap-in guards too and they just made everything worse for me.

Did you see that Consumer Reports article a while back about gutter guards? They basically said most of the cheap ones don't work for shit and can actually cause more problems than they solve. I heard the same thing from a contractor friend of mine who says he makes a killing fixing roofs where guards just shifted everything into the downspouts instead. Honestly, paying a kid $40 every month sounds like a steal compared to that $1,200 repair you had lol. I stick to just a leaf blower and a ladder every few weeks myself, way less drama.
