Just found out how much our property tax rate jumped this year
I was looking at my Cuyahoga County property tax statement last night and the increase was a real shock. The effective rate for my place in Tremont went up by nearly 12% compared to last year. I knew there was a new levy, but I didn't expect the total bill to climb that much. It's a big hit to the monthly budget I had planned. Has anyone else in the city seen a similar jump, and did you find a way to appeal it successfully?

Welcome to the club, it's brutal out here. My bill in Ohio City shot up almost the same amount. They keep adding levies and we just have to eat the cost. I looked into an appeal but the process seems really hard to win without a major error in their assessment. You should definitely check your property record card online for any mistakes though, it's the only real shot. This is going to push a lot of long time residents right out of the neighborhood.

My aunt fought her property tax hike for two years and ended up spending more on a surveyor than she would have just paying the increase. The whole system feels rigged to make you give up. She found a typo in her square footage but they called it a clerical error and denied the appeal anyway. It's enough to make you want to live in a van down by the river.

That 12% jump is rough. Did you check the breakdown of the new levy to see exactly what it's funding? Sometimes seeing where the money is supposed to go makes the pill a little easier to swallow, or gives you ammo to complain to the right people.
