Genuine leather seats were the last thing I expected to like
I spent 8 years driving an old Chevelle with torn vinyl and swore I'd never pay extra for leather, figured it was just rich folks showing off. Then I bought a 1972 Cadillac from a guy in Tulsa for $5,400 and it came with the original oxblood leather interior, cracked but fixable. My buddy said to try a local upholstery guy instead of replacing it, cost me $900 to re-dye and condition the seats. First long drive to Oklahoma City last month and my back didn't stick to anything, plus the smell is this deep, musky thing that makes the whole car feel older and richer. I was dead wrong about leather being fussy, this hides dirt way better than my old vinyl and hasn't cracked once since treatment. Has anyone else swapped out their original seat material after hating it for years, or am I just late to this party?
Man I did the same thing with my 86 F150, had the base cloth bench that was scratchy as hell and I swore leather was for showoffs. My uncle talked me into swapping in a set of leather buckets from a wrecked Lariat and I about kicked myself for waiting so long. They wipe clean with a rag, they dont hold heat in summer like I figured they would, and the truck just feels like a nicer place to be. The smell alone is worth it, that rich old leather smell beats any air freshener you can buy. Should have listened to him years ago instead of being stubborn about it.
