Old sweep told me I was overthinking my brush selection

He said just stick with poly bristles for standard flues and save the wire ones for serious creosote, now I'm not swapping brushes three times a job. Anyone else ever get called out for overcomplicating something simple?

My granddad's been on chimneys since the 60s and he swaps brushes based on the flue material every single time, says a poly brush on a clay liner with rough patches will just push the crud deeper instead of scraping it off. I'd rather carry three brushes than take a second trip because I half-assed the first pass.

@emery_flores I think your granddad's right about the brush thing, but he might have the materials mixed up a bit. A poly brush actually works fine on clay liners, it's the steel wire ones that'll tear up the glaze and leave rough patches.
