Feeling like today's apprentices miss out on real chimney work
Back when I started, we learned by doing messy jobs with basic tools. Now it's all about clean tech and safety videos before they even touch a brush. How do you balance old school skills with new rules in your training?

My old boss used to say if you didn't eat a pound of soot by lunch, you weren't working hard enough. I mean, now they have to watch a 30-minute video on ladder safety before they can even look at a chimney. It's like we're training office workers instead of sweeps. Maybe it's just me, but the only thing they're mastering is how to click through online modules. Idk, maybe we should just give them a helmet cam and call it virtual reality training. At this rate, they'll be experts in paperwork and allergic to actual dirt.

A pound of soot for lunch? That's wild.
