Appreciation post: the sweep in Bristol showed me ash weighs about 1 pound per gallon and I never checked
I helped a buddy on a job in Bristol last Tuesday and he scooped ash into a marked bucket. He told me a full gallon of dry ash runs about 1 pound, so a 5 gallon pail is close to 5 pounds of dust. I had been guessing the weight on every job for 9 years. When I dumped my vacuum canister, I finally understood why my back hurts after a busy Saturday. He also said old coal ash is way heavier than wood ash, which is why some bags feel like bricks. How do you all figure out your haul weight before you load the truck?
