The stranger who fixed my frozen pipe with a hair dryer

Last month in Tacoma we had that cold snap, and my outdoor spigot pipe froze solid. I was out there at 7am with a wrench and a torch, which was dumb. A guy walking his dog stopped and said, "You're gonna melt your own fittings." He went home and came back with a hair dryer and a towel. Twenty minutes of warm air and the ice let go. No damage. I bought him coffee after. Has anyone else had a random passerby save them from a dumb DIY mistake?
