The stranger at a Dayton bus stop guessed my age within 2 years and it floored me
I was waiting for the Route 7 bus on Third Street in Dayton when an older guy in a beat up Reds cap started chatting about the rain. Somehow we got on the topic of birthdays and he looked at me and said "you're 47, give or take a year." I was 48 at the time, three days past my birthday actually. When I asked how he knew, he said he had driven a cab for 22 years and could just tell by how people carried themselves. Does anyone else have a stranger read them that accurately, or was this just a one time thing?
Worked a summer job at a carnival in my early twenties and this old timer running the ring toss called out my age before I even said hello. He said I had the walk of a 22 year old who just got dumped, which was weirdly true since my girlfriend had broken up with me two days before. I asked if that was some carny trick and he just laughed and said you see enough faces in a season and you start reading people like a book. Funny thing is I can usually guess too now that I'm older, not ages so much but whether somebody is tired or happy or just going through it. Some people just pay attention to other people more than the rest of us do. Your cab driver spent 22 years watching folks in his rearview mirror, that adds up to a lot of faces.
