The crossing guard on 5th waved me through even when it wasn't my turn
I walk past the same school crossing on 5th Street every morning around 7:45, and there's this older guy named Ray who works it. A while back I was running late and jaywalking mid-block, and he didn't yell at me like I figured he would. He just held up his stop sign for the cars, looked at me and said "go on, I got you," and I made it across without breaking stride. Now we nod at each other every day, and it got me thinking about how many small kindnesses from strangers I probably walk right past without noticing. Does anyone else have a random person they see daily who quietly looks out for them?
