Hot take: jumping in to help a stranger cost me 3 hours at a Target in Columbus
Everyone acts like stopping to help someone in a parking lot is some sweet little moment. Mine turned into a 3 hour mess at the Target off Bethel Road in Columbus last Saturday. A lady locked her keys in her car with the engine still running, and I figured I could pop the door with a coat hanger in maybe 10 minutes. Turns out her door seals were tighter than I expected and the hanger kept slipping off the rod thing. We tried a wedge and a bent rod from a guy who pulled up, then a cop showed up and poked around for half an hour before saying he wasn't allowed to help. By the time a locksmith showed at 4:15 she'd been stuck for close to 3 hours total. Part of me thinks I should've just walked away and let her call someone, but people treat me like a jerk when I say that. Is calling a pro right away really the cold move, or is trying to DIY it with a stranger just wasting everyone's afternoon?
