Vent: Customer told me my seams were too tight
Some lady with a 20 year old carpet said I was pulling too hard on her new stuff. Showed me a loose spot where it was already rippling. Switched to a lighter power stretcher setting after that, been smoother ever since. Anyone else deal with customers who think they know more than you do?

That 20 year old carpet was probably stretched out already, so any tight new seams would show her old rippling way more than normal. I had a guy once who insisted his 15 year old tile was perfectly level until I pulled up a row and showed him the 1/4 inch dip. You just gotta explain that age changes the flooring underneath and a light touch on the power stretcher is usually the right call.

And yeah, @the_christopher, you hit on something real there. I've seen so many folks think cranking it tighter fixes everything but it just makes the problems more obvious (especially on old floors like that). It's like trying to force a square peg in a round hole, the material will always win in the end if you don't respect what's underneath. I had a lady once swear her subfloor was fine until I showed her the sag with a level and she just kinda sighed and said "do what you gotta do." Sometimes the hardest part is convincing people their floor isn't as perfect as they remember it being.
