Spent 3 hours fighting a seam that should've taken 20 minutes

Had a job in Lancaster last week, 12x15 living room. The seam ran perpendicular to a sliding glass door and the light kept catching the edge. I re-trimmed it twice, adjusted the taper, still showing a gap. Finally flipped the roll direction and it laid flat. Total time was 3 hours plus a lunch break. Has anyone else had a seam fight them until you flipped the direction?
