Showerthought: pulling carpet padding staples with pliers is faster than my $200 electric staple remover
Bought one of those oscillating staple remover setups for $200 back in March. Used it on a 12x15 bedroom in a rental over on Fremont Street. It kept slipping off the staple heads and chewing up the pad. Switched to plain needlenose pliers and a flathead and finished the rest of the room in about 20 minutes. Everybody on the crew swears by the electric ones but I think they just like the noise. I know my wrists pay for it after a full day but the electric one is sitting in my truck collecting dust now. Curious if anyone here has a method that beats pliers because I'm not going back to that thing.
See this is exactly the trap I fell into last summer on a flip over on 8th Ave. I did the whole back bedroom with pliers and a hammer and bragged about it same as you, then spent three days with my hand wrapped in ice because I couldn't grip my coffee mug. The electric one is not about speed on one room, it's about doing four rooms in a weekend when your hands still have to work on Monday. You said it yourself, your wrists pay for it after a full day, and that bill comes due eventually. The machine slipping just means you were pushing too hard into the pad instead of letting the tool ride the surface, that part is on technique not the tool. Give it another shot in a bigger room before you write it off for good.
