Pulled up a 30 year old roll of carpet from a house built in 1988 and it still had the original backing tag

I was tearing out a bedroom in a split-level off Maple Street last Wednesday and found a whole roll of carpet that was never even unrolled. The original installer wrote his name and date on the back edge in permanent marker, like he knew someone would find it decades later. Makes me wonder how many of our installs are still sitting under furniture or in closets years after we're gone?

You still had the original backing tag" - that is wild. I honestly thought those tags were just glued on there and would fall off after a couple years in a basement. Finding one intact after 30 years is like finding a time capsule under your feet. And the installer writing his name and date on it? That's dedication, man. Makes you wonder how many other rolls are sitting in crawl spaces or bonus rooms just waiting to be rediscovered.

Yo @wells.olivia that reminds me of when my dad found an old roll of shag carpet in his attic from like 1975. He was cleaning out and there it was just sitting in a box untouched. He said the installer wrote his phone number and "call for your next room" on the backing tag too. It's crazy how those guys took pride in their work back then. Makes me think every old house probably has some random roll of something hidden away just waiting to be discovered. Maybe we should all go check our crawlspaces more often lol.
