Update: guy at the lumber yard in Dayton told me to quit stacking green oak flat on the rack
Heard him tell a young fella last Tuesday that flat stacking green oak with no stickers is how you get checks and twist by the time it dries. I'd been doing it that way for months on a set of porch posts and lost two of them to splitting, so I went home and restuck everything that night. He said it plain: air needs to move through both faces evenly or the wood moves on its own schedule. Anyone got a stack rule they swear by for oak that's still wet?
