PSA: I spent five years cutting on the wrong side of my line and a tip from a trim guy in Tulsa set me straight
Was framing a set of closet shelves for a guy in Tulsa last month and he watched me snap a line, then cut with the blade riding right on the mark. He asked if I always did that and I said yeah, since I started. He handed me a scrap and told me to try cutting with the blade on the waste side and leave the line standing. I did it and the piece fit first try, no shaving, no sanding. Turns out I'd been losing about a 16th on every cut for a long time and just blamed my tape or my saw or the wood. Five years of sneaking up on cuts with a block plane when I could've just moved the blade a hair. My old lead never said a word and I never asked. Any of you have a habit you picked up early that nobody ever corrected?
