My miter saw cuts were off by a hair for two years and a scrap bin tipped me off
So last Thursday I was cleaning out the scrap bin in my garage and I kept picking up these little wedges about 1/16 inch thick off the ends of my trim cuts. Then it hit me, those weren't scraps from the saw, those were gaps I'd been filling with caulk on every baseboard job since 2023. I grabbed my speed square and checked my blade against the table and sure enough it was sitting slightly out of square the whole time, maybe a degree or two off. I'd been blaming my tape measure and my pencil and even my own eyes for two years when the fix was loosening two bolts and dialing the blade in with the square. Ran three test cuts on 1x4 pine and they came out dead nuts, no light coming through when I butted them together. Felt like such a dummy but also kind of great, like finding money in a jacket pocket. Anyone else ever chase a cut problem for way too long before thinking to check the saw itself?
