Been cutting my own shims wrong for like a decade, I guess.

I was helping my buddy frame a garage in Tacoma and he saw me whittling a shim down with my knife. He just goes, 'Dude, you know you can snap those against the grain, right?' I'd been carefully cutting them to width every single time, which is way slower. How many other basic things am I just doing the hard way?

How many other things do we all do the hard way without knowing?

Remember reading manuals cover to cover before setting anything up. Turns out most things have a quick start guide that gets you going in five minutes. I wasted so much time.

My grandpa taught me to tie my shoes with the "bunny ears" method. I was 22 years old before a coworker saw me doing it and showed me the loop-swoop-and-pull. My mind was blown that there was a faster way.
