Took a $4/hr pay cut to leave the fire dept for a desk job, lasted 11 months
Back in 2021 I left my firefighter job in Aurora to take an office gig doing safety compliance for a warehouse company. The pay was $4/hr less but it was Mon-Fri, no nights, and my back was shot from years of gear. I stuck it out 11 months before I called my old captain and asked if they'd take me back. The desk work was fine but I missed the crew and the purpose, and honestly the raise I got returning barely covered what I lost. Now I'm 2 years back on the truck and I still wonder if I bailed too early on the office thing. Anyone here switch from shift work to a regular 9-5 and actually stick with it?
