Weekend trip canceled, then a random museum fact ate my whole afternoon

My flight to Portland got scratched by fog last Saturday, so I ended up at the local history museum downtown. Bought the $12 ticket just to kill time, but I found this display about how the city's old streetcar network had over 200 miles of track in 1915. That number blew me away because now we barely have one bus line that runs on time. So here's my question, when plans fall apart, do you tend to dig into the random stuff around you, or do you just go home and sulk? I want to hear both sides because I honestly didn't expect a canceled trip to turn into a history nerd moment.
