Warning: my canceled camping trip led to a 6 hour Wikipedia hole
I was supposed to head to Big Bend last Saturday, but the forecast called for 50 mph wind gusts and I bailed. Instead, I looked up why the park gets so windy and somehow landed on the fact that it sits on the Chihuahuan Desert's old sea bed. Turns out, the area used to be under an inland ocean 100 million years ago, which explained all those fossilized seashells I'd seen on a prior hike. Now I'm curious, has anyone else had a canceled plan turn into a random deep dive that made the trip feel pointless in a weird way?

Wait, did you find out if those old sea shells are the same kind you can still buy at gas stations out there?
