The big picnic got rained out, so I ended up making sushi at midnight

Last Saturday my whole group had this big picnic planned at the park, like 12 of us with blankets and games. At 4pm the sky just opened up and we all got the text it was off. I had already bought a ton of ingredients for my famous pasta salad, so I was stuck with basil, cherry tomatoes, and lemons. Instead of sulking, I grabbed the last pack of nori from my pantry and tried rolling sushi with random stuff I had. Chicken, cream cheese, avocado, even some leftover pickles. It was so bad but so fun, and now my friends want a monthly 'ruined plans' dinner where we each cook something from whatever we got stuck with. Has anyone else turned a canceled thing into a weird food tradition?

My neighbor did that after a hurricane and now we do it every power outage.
