My Saturday hike got rained out so I tried to fix a dripping faucet

My friends bailed on our trail plan because of a storm warning. Stuck inside, I figured I'd finally fix the kitchen faucet that's been dripping for months. I thought it would take maybe an hour. I turned off the water, took the handle apart, and found the cartridge was totally stuck. I tried everything, even a special puller tool from the hardware store. What should have been a simple swap turned into a 4 hour fight with old plumbing. I ended up having to cut the old cartridge out piece by piece with a hacksaw blade. Has anyone else had a simple home fix blow up into a whole day project? What was your 'quick fix' that wasn't?

Man, that story hits home. Used to think changing a car battery was a ten minute job. Last time I did it, the terminal was fused on from corrosion. Ended up snapping the bolt, had to drill it out, and drove to three parts stores for a new hold-down bracket. What starts as a simple swap always turns into a fight with rust and old parts. Your hacksaw blade move sounds exactly like the kind of desperate fix you only figure out after hours of frustration.

Right @shanelee, used to think the same until that exact mess.

Totally get that, @the_nathan. Had a battery cable snap clean off once, leaving the terminal stuck in the clamp. Spent an hour trying to pry it out before just wiring the new cable straight to the old clamp.
