My friend bailed on our movie night last Friday, so I finally tried that puzzle I bought in Seattle.

I used to just scroll my phone when plans fell through, but now I force myself to start a small project. Anyone else find they're more productive with sudden free time?

It's funny how a canceled plan can feel like a gift of time. I've started keeping a list of little things I want to do, like fixing a wobbly shelf or trying a new recipe, just for these moments. It turns a bummer into a tiny win, and I get way more done than if I'd just had the whole evening free to begin with.

That puzzle from Seattle sounds like a good one. I get what @claire_gibson means about a list, but my brain just doesn't work that way. Last month my sister canceled coming over, and I ended up deep cleaning my oven for the first time in two years. It was gross, but I felt weirdly proud. Now I almost hope for a last minute text so I can tackle some random chore I've been putting off.

My oven's still waiting on that text.
