My concert tickets got canceled an hour before the show started
I was all set to see a band in Austin last month when my friend texted she was sick. Instead of just going home, I walked to a small park near the venue and listened to a local guy play guitar for a couple hours. It was free, the weather was perfect, and I actually had a better time than I think I would have at the crowded show. Has anyone else had a canceled night out turn into a surprisingly good solo adventure?

That's a solid silver lining. I read a blog post about how some of the best nights happen when the main plan falls apart.

My flight to Chicago got grounded for a full day. I spent the whole afternoon in a weird airport hotel bar talking to a retired pilot. He told me stories that were way better than any museum I had planned. Sometimes the backup plan is the whole point.

My neighbor had a layover in Atlanta a few years ago that turned into an overnight stay. She ended up at this little diner near the airport and got to talking to a elderly couple who had flown all over the world. They showed her photos on their phone from trips to Antarctica and told her about the time their plane had to land on a tiny island in the Pacific. She said she never would have traded that evening for a direct flight home.
