My buddy flaked on our hike, so I checked the city's park website and saw that 60% of trail closures happen due to minor storm damage, not major events.
I ended up just walking my own neighborhood and found three little parks I never knew existed, so what's the best solo activity you've stumbled into after a plan fell apart?

That "weird but free salad" idea is great. I once got bored and tried to identify all the trees on my street using a free app, felt like a low-stakes detective.

My city library had a free map of local historical markers. I spent a whole afternoon just walking to find ten of them, reading the little plaques. It was like a scavenger hunt for grown ups, and I learned about buildings I pass every day. The best part was finding a marker for a long gone jazz club behind what's now a laundromat. You start seeing the layers of a place when you look that close.

Read an article once about people doing "urban foraging" after their farmers market trip got rained out. They just walked around their own block looking for edible weeds and fruit trees on public land. Found dandelion greens and mulberries. Ended up making a weird but free salad. Kind of makes you look at every cracked sidewalk differently.
