PSA: REI's return policy changed and nobody at the register told me

I went to the REI in Denver to return a sleeping pad I bought in March because it started leaking at the valve. The guy at the counter scanned my receipt and said the return window is now 90 days for members, not the old full year I remembered. I stood there with my jaw on the floor because I swore it was still a year, and he said it changed back in 2024. I lost $140 on that pad and had to buy a new one right there. Did anyone else get caught off guard by this or was I just living under a rock?
