DAE think the rainfly reviews are all written by people who camp in perfect weather?
Spent last weekend at Kickapoo State Park in Illinois and got hit with 4 inches of rain in one night, and my cheap $60 tent stayed bone dry while my buddy's $400 one leaked at the seams. We both bought them based on the same top rated reviews, but nobody in those reviews mentioned a single thing about real storm testing. Has anyone found a reviewer who actually camps in bad weather instead of just setting up in the backyard once?

Reviewers doing one calm night in the backyard is the same thing as restaurant reviews from people who went once and got lucky, or product reviews from folks who used a thing for a week. Nobody writes the "it fell apart in month six" update nearly as often as they post the day-one five stars. The people who leave reviews love the thing already, so you mostly hear from the happy ones. Real storm testing takes camping through enough bad nights to actually know, and most people never do that. Your cheap tent beating the fancy one is a good reminder that price and review count don't tell you squat about a rainstorm.
