Stopped into a camera shop in Cleveland and their repair bench was a mess
I was in Cleveland last week visiting a buddy and we stopped into this old camera shop downtown. The guy behind the counter had six cameras taken apart on his bench with no labels or trays, just parts piled together. I asked him how he keeps track of which screw goes where and he said he just remembers. That might work for him but it made me wonder how many times he ends up with leftover parts. Has anyone else seen repair setups that make you cringe?

Man I saw a guy once using old yogurt cups for screws and it drove me nuts too!

God yeah the yogurt cup thing gets me too. I walked into a shop once where the guy had like 20 different sized screws sitting loose in a pizza box. Just rolling around. And he was convinced he could tell by looking which ones went where. I get being fast but that's just asking for trouble. Eventually you'll grab the wrong one and strip something. Or you'll lose a tiny screw and have to order a whole new part. At least use a muffin tin or something, anything with separate spots. That pizza box setup gave me anxiety just watching it.

Grab a cheap plastic organizer tray from the hardware store with adjustable dividers. I use one for my electronics screws and it saves me from losing that one tiny Phillips head that holds the hinge on. You can find them for like five bucks in the fastener aisle. Way better than hunting around a pizza box for a screw that rolled under the workbench.
