I spent 4 hours trying to fix a sticky shutter on a Nikon F3 and it was just a tiny piece of foam
The foam seal had degraded into a gummy mess right near the curtain mechanism. Has anyone else had a simple fix hide behind hours of disassembly on a classic body?

Classic cameras love hiding easy fixes behind total teardowns.

Absolutely. The worst is when a simple film advance gear needs replacing, but you have to disassemble the entire top plate and shutter mechanism just to reach it.

Isn't it the same with so many things now? Like my car needs a new cabin air filter, but the manual says to remove the whole glove box assembly first. It feels like planned frustration. @dixon.iris is right, it's a whole design philosophy of hiding the simple stuff.
