Dropped a 50mm f1.8 in the sink, dried it with rice, and the aperture blades stuck wide open 3 days later
I knocked my Canon 50mm f1.8 into a full sink while washing dishes and panicked, so I buried it in a bag of rice for two days like everyone says to do. It powered on fine and I thought I got lucky, but by day three the aperture blades were frozen wide open and the focus ring felt gritty. Turns out rice dust got into the barrel and the water never really left the inner elements, so I ended up paying $65 at a shop in Portland to get it cleaned and relubed. Next time I'll pull the battery and use a hair dryer on low from a foot away instead. Anyone else had rice make a repair worse, or is it just me?
