Comparing a cheap $20 hot air station to my $200 one turned into a good lesson
I finally got around to reflowing a loose HDMI port on a client's T2i board last week, and I tried it first with the cheap $20 hot air station I keep in my go bag. The cheap one had no real temp control and I nearly lifted a pad. Switching to my $200 Quick 861DW with a preheater made the joint flow in about 15 seconds with no drama. It was a small win, but it reminded me that the tool isn't always the problem, it's the lack of control. Has anyone else found a cheap tool that surprisingly worked better than the pricey one for a specific job?
