My contractor's generic contract missed a $6,000 detail

Last month I hired a local crew in Austin to redo my studio floor. They handed me a boilerplate contract they probably use for everything, so I skimmed it and signed. Three weeks later they hit me with a change order for demo and haul away that I thought was included. I pulled out the contract and sure enough, it only covered installation. Now I'm wondering how many small business owners get stung like this. Has anyone else found cheap templates that left out big costs?
