Hit my 6-month emergency fund target, a year early

I set a goal to save 6 months of expenses by next fall, but after picking up extra weekend shifts and cutting my grocery bill by $40 a week, I crossed it this morning. The number in my savings account is $4,850, which felt impossible when I started last March. Anyone else surprise themselves by beating a savings timeline?

Did you have to basically force yourself to see it as doable? Because I used to think these big savings goals were just for people with higher salaries or no bills. Cutting $40 a week on groceries seemed pointless to me, like a drop in the bucket. But then I did the math on what that adds up to over a year, plus a few extra shifts, and it clicked. Watching that number climb each month changed my whole view on what small habits can do. Now I’m the one telling my buddies to skip the takeout and see what sticks.
