Shoutout to the hostel clerk in Lisbon who showed me the grocery store trick
I used to eat every meal out when I traveled because I thought cooking in a shared kitchen was too much hassle. Last March a clerk at my hostel in Lisbon walked me to the Pingo Doce down the street and I got bread, cheese, fruit, and coffee for about 6 euros, which covered breakfast for four days. Now I hit a grocery store the first night of every trip and pack a few sandwiches for travel days. It saves me probably $30 a day and honestly the market trips are half the fun of a city. Anyone got a go to cheap meal they always make in a hostel kitchen?
