Missed my $28 bus in Lisbon by 4 minutes, here is what actually worked

I was at Sete Rios station and watched the FlixBus pull out while I was still in the ticket line, so I panicked and almost paid 90 euros for a last minute train. Instead I waited for the next bus at 6am and slept in the station, which saved me around 60 euros but cost me a rough night. Has anyone found a good way to check real time bus delays ahead of time so this does not keep happening?
