Stood in line at Aldi yesterday and noticed everyone's cart tells a different story

I went to the Aldi on 42nd Street around noon and watched people grab the same staples but totally different proteins. One guy had five packs of ground beef, another had beans and rice only. Got me thinking, is it worth spending a bit more on meat now or does the bulk bean approach actually stretch further? I picked up a $1.89 bag of dried pinto beans and a $4.50 pack of chicken thighs, still not sure which one I'll lean on for the week. Anyone else switch their protein strategy after seeing how others shop, or do you stick to your list no matter what?

Also, that $4.50 chicken thighs thing, you're comparing it to a bag of beans that makes like five meals. The beans are cheaper per meal, but you're gonna be hungry an hour later unless you add rice and some veggies, so that's more money. I've done the bean thing before and it works, but it's not a straight swap for meat in my experience. Everybody's cart tells a story, sure, but the story usually changes by Friday when the sale flyer comes out. I just grab whatever's marked down and figure out the rest when I get home.
