Why does nobody talk about the cement powder that blows away in the wind?
It drives me nuts when we're mixing mortar on a breezy day and half the bag just disappears into the air... That fine dust gets everywhere and it's such a waste of material. I see it happen on almost every site, and no one seems to mind or try to stop it. It can't be good for the area around the job, let alone our lungs when we breathe it in. We could use simple covers or mix in contained spots, but it's like an afterthought. All that product lost adds up, and it feels careless with resources... Just a little planning would cut down on so much mess and waste.

You say it's money floating away, but on a tight schedule that minute you save not messing with a tarp is money too. That dust is mostly just a nuisance, it settles fast. We all know we should wear a mask anyway for the silica.

Think about the sheer volume of cement dust that escapes on a breezy day. It's not just a mess, it's money floating away and a real health problem. Why isn't there a standard rule to contain this on every job? Do bosses not care because it's an invisible cost? We could cut waste and protect ourselves with minimal effort. So why does this basic step get skipped time and again?

Look past the dust to the paper trail. Bosses might see a complaint as a bigger cost than the dust itself, because that creates real liability.
