Thought those plastic corner blocks were junk for 6 years, one old guy in Omaha set me straight
I always figured masonry corners had to be done with a level and a story pole, no shortcuts. Back in 2018 I watched a guy set plastic corner blocks on a job in Omaha and I thought he was cutting corners for speed, so I never touched them. Last week I was doing a 40 foot wall alone and my back was killing me, so I grabbed a box of the cheap ones from the supply yard for 12 bucks. I ran a line off them for the first course and checked every 5 courses with my 4 foot level, and the wall was dead on plumb all the way up. It saved me maybe 2 hours on that wall and my corners came out cleaner than my usual work. Any of you use the metal ones instead, or do they move around too much in the mortar?
